Autonomous Vehicle Production Engineer

Job Summary
May Mobility is entering into an exciting phase of growth for the company where we are moving into the production phase of product development. We are looking for a Production Engineer to manage the production of vehicles, including supply chain, sub-assembly contract manufacturing, in-house manufacturing, and final integration and test. This role will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer and will be key in helping May Mobility meet the growing demand for our transportation services.  

Responsibilities and Duties
Specifically, the Production Engineer will have the following responsibilities:

  • Ensure on-time, on-budget, and on-spec production of May Mobility vehicles, including all mechanical and electrical components
  • Lead strategic decision-making for manufacturing/production processes and scheduling, including supply chain, sub-assembly contract manufacturing, and in-house manufacturing
  • Liaise with component suppliers and production partners and oversee contract manufacturing
  • Significant time physically co-located at supplier/partner site may be necessary several days a week
  • Oversee in-house production processes
  • Define and generate production/manufacturing procedures, specifications, and work instructions
  • Work with suppliers and in-house engineers to increase manufacturability of custom parts
  • Support production issues of the electrical and mechanical vehicle subsystems
  • Evaluate manufacturing and production procedures and proactively implement improvements
  • Create requirements and guidelines for quality assurance

Qualifications and Skills
Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience as an engineer in a deadline-driven production environment
  • Prior experience working with automotive suppliers
  • Demonstrated production-oriented project management skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience producing and dimensioning CAD models and drawings for internal and external consumption
  • Experience managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts and managing coordinated deliverables
  • High degree of comfort being the go-to contact for production issues
  • Ability to work independently to ensure suppliers and partners to hit deadlines
  • Strict attention to detail in a fast-paced environment with many moving parts
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial/Operations Engineering, or related degree

Desirable Qualifications

  • Formal training and experience with enterprise process improvement methods (eg Six Sigma) 
  • Prior experience in production of cutting-edge electro-mechanical systems
  • Working knowledge of Google Suite tools
